Herbal Infused Hair Mask

Hair hydration for these hot summer days

Summertime is for picnics, bbqs, beach days, water play and outside fun! But, all of these take a toll not only on our skin, but our hair too. This recipe gives your hair a big ole drink of moisture, providing hydration, shine and some TLC.

Just a few pantry ingredients are needed to make this hair mask, and you probably already have them all!

Here is what I did:

Start by creating a luscious infused oil using coconut oil and rosemary. Your hair will love these two! Rosemary helps to stimulate hair growth and helps scalp health. Coconut oil will give your hair moisture and shine. I used the crockpot method to create the infused oil. Here is a step-by-step to follow…

  • In a glass jar, add in fresh rosemary. Next, pour in coconut oil filling to the top.
  • In a crockpot, add in just enough water where the jar you used will be covered, but not submerged. I used an 8 ounce glass jar for this recipe.
  • Keep the lid off the crock pot and turn it on low.
  • Allow your herbal oil to sit in the crockpot bath for a good 8 hours.
  • Carefully remove jar from crockpot, strain out herbs and reserve your oil for herbal creations!

Next, using a blender, add in about 4 avocados. These babies are going to coat your hair with rich hydration and will bring dry hair back to life!

Once the infused oil is done & strained, add it to the blender with the avocados. Mix it all up until creamy.

Pour the liquid into silicone molds, the ones I used have the look of a comb, it helps run through your hair (a little tough to pop out, not going to lie, but still a great mold).

Place the molds into the freezer, I like to freeze these to prevent browning.

Once frozen, pop them out and use on clean we hair. Leave the hair mask on for about 5-10 minutes, then rinse out.

ICYMI… did you see my newest blog post up on @herbalacademy website? It’s an easy & oh so effective recipe to beat the heat 🔥

Summer is a blessing and a curse. There’s nothing better than playing out under the sun’s warm rays, but a little too long in the sun can cause skin damage. But have no fear, herbalism is here! Beat the heat and soothe sunburns this summer with a cooling and soothing frozen calendula (Calendula officianalis) infused aloe vera (Aloe vera) gel ice cube. This recipe for DIY frozen aloe and calendula cubes will come in handy after the long days spent in the garden, the afternoons by the sea, or those children’s parties that seem to always be scheduled during heat waves.

The full how-to can be found in my stories or link in my bio 💛

If there’s one thing you make today, let it be t If there’s one thing you make today, let it be this! Summer sip recipe ☀️

This herby, tart, slightly sweet summer sip is just what you need today! Fresh squeezed grapefruit juice + a powerful herbal syrup, makes the perfect duo.

Thyme, after reading the monograph in my favorite resource - the herbarium (link in bio), I feel it’s one of those powerful herbs we should try to incorporate more into our daily lives. Most known for being connected to the respiratory & digestive systems, thyme is excellent at opening airways, reducing bronchiole inflammation and can act as a protector against infections. “Thyme contains powerful volatile oils that are key in its herbal efficacy, so fresh plant preparations are considered best.” Grow some in a pot to always have on hand! Thyme also has the ability to stimulate movement of energy, blood, and oxygen to the digestive tract. So neat, I didn’t know that! There are other fascinating factoids about thyme in the herbarium, too much to list here. But members, go take a read, I’ll bet you’ll learn something you didn’t know! 💚

I often find that using herbs in creative ways, not just a tea or tincture, although both excellent preparations, I tend to use it more often. With a safe to consume herb like thyme, having a little everyday is much more beneficial. So for this, I made a potent thyme simple syrup. Easy to make and oh so delicious, you’ll want to do it too!

Here’s what I did:
✨ Thyme simple syrup: in a pot combine a handful of fresh thyme sprigs + 1/2 cup sugar + 1/2 cup water. With heat on medium, allow the sugar to completely dissolve. Turn off the heat & allow it to cool in the pot while you prepare the juice.
✨ Fresh squeeze one large grapefruit to get one cup of juice. Pour into a small pitcher.
✨ Next, pour in one cup sparkling mineral water, I love @mountainvalleywater
✨ lastly, strain your thyme simple syrup, using a fine mesh strainer. You’ll next add in 1/2 cup thyme simple syrup to the pitcher.
✨ Mix everything together & enjoy over crushed ice, maybe even a sugar rim!

This delicious summer drink is refreshing, not too sweet & has a wonderful herbal punch of flavor thanks to thyme
